DRIVE WAY now STREAMING in both the band version AND a solo acoustic version that I (MB) did in studio in Brooklyn last year. The song that started it all for the Two Mikes of Diver Through is now officially released on streaming (finally). Originally performed and recorded under the band name Haven circa 2000, Drive Away was played on 93.3 Planet Radio and appeared on their Native Noise 2 CD compilation. It gained the band a lot of attention for their live shows and with record labels. While the band recorded a lot of demos they never made an official record and therefore the song was never officially released. In anticipation of the NEW Diver Through EP this fall we thought it would be fun to finally release this bit of nostalgia for those who know the song, and something new for everyone else.
STUDIO VERSION full credits:
-Mikey Clams, Bass
-Michael Baynes, Vocals/Guitar
-Dillon Chansen, Guitar
-Robert Orndorff, Drums
-Recorded and mixed by the late Pete Thornton (1999/2000)
-Championed by DJ Flounder on Planet Radio, who played it on his Native Noise local band program every week for a year and pushed for it to be on the CD and for it to be an official “add” on commercial radio.
-Written by Michael Baynes (BMI). Words heavily influenced/borrowed by a Richard Ford short story.
-Concert poster on the cover icon is a Kendrick Kidd original from an actual show. He was not only in the band (from time to time and in a pinch) but he did all of the posters, flyers, and my tattoos, DT art AND the upcoming vinyl artwork for the new DT release.
ACOUSTIC VERSION is just me and my Epiphone Cortez acoustic at Vinegar Hill Sound in Brooklyn, NYC with Reed Black engineering and one really old vintage microphone. September 2025.
Thanks to the amazing people at Subluna Records for making this happen. #diverthrough #altrock #iwanttobedisrupted
